I have recently purchased a Blackburn Atom 4.0 Wireless Computer. Worked great for 100miles but is now not registering speed.
Also I cannot here the ticking noise that I heard before from the fork transmitter when the magnet passed it.
Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be weak batteries?
The unit is still under warranty but wanted to see if there was a quick fix before I send it back.
Thanks

- Batteries are usually the culprit, changethem before sending it back. Although you've only had the computer a short time, the batteries might have been in the unit on the shelf/in the warehouse for a couple of months.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
- I have the Atom 5.0 and have had the same problem, but after much longer use. Changed the battery and it is now working fine again.
Also just make sure your receiver and the little magnet on the wheel is still aligned, mine once got a push and then the speed went. But as you cannot hear the clicking noice I suspect it's the battery.
Go to where you bought it and complain and if they are a decent shop they should give you a new set of batteries. - Realise this is old but thought i might as well resurrect it!
I have an atom 4.0 and it intermittently(?) stops working. I adjust the spoke magnet and sometimes it comes back on, or sometimes it doesn't, then I ride for a bit, look down and it's working again.
I checked out in the garage and the metal inside the sender unit isn't always being pulled up (or whatever it does to make that little click) even though I am passing the magnet almost touching.
I changed the batteries in the unit on the fork leg but it didn't make any difference. And then it started working again. I suspect it's a bit censored and is going to do this until I get sick of it and throw it down the toilet which is shame cos i actually really like the computer.
Also, if anybody else has one of these, how the hell do you attach it to your carbon fork leg when the rubber thing is obviously designed for a circular fork leg. I bodged together something with the ties, foam and insulating tape! Not pretty. Haven't blackburn cottoned onto the fact that carbon forks are generally not round ..

ARRGHH! - Does the display unit slot into a thing that holds it onto the handlebar ? One of my cateye speedos suffers from rust on the contacts which means I have to click it out and in a few times sometimes to make a good contact for it to work properly.
- Nope, just a plastic thing. Oddly you can buy a second bike magnet and sensor and holder and it is supposed to automatically know when you switch bikes. No idea how it does that!
. - Yep. I realised about 2 minutes after I posted that it wouldn't have metal contacts as its WIRELESS - doh !
It will have a battery at each end though, one on the sensor/sender and one in the head unit. Have you replaced both ?
To extend the range of the spoke magnet you could add a small neodymium magnet. Just let it attach itself to the existing magnet and it will stick there happily. You get them from fleabay. I'm assuming that you can use it on two bikes because you have to pair it with the sensor so it can tell which one is which. I could confirm that if I could find the manual on the web - my first effort failed. - Second attempt at searching for the manual worked. It was on the Blackburn website hidden in one of the links at the bottom of the home page. Anyway the sender uses a 12 volt battery and only lasts a year so I guess that is the culprit.
It doesn't auto detect different bikes as I first thought, you tell it which one you are riding. You can define each bikes profile such as wheel size and odometer, you can even set one to show miles and the other kilometres if you want. Neat really.
They recommend having the sensor only 18 inches away from the display unit. - Second attempt at searching for the manual worked. You know when the wheel sensor is working as you can quite clearly hear a click as it passes the magnet, it should be the same without any batteries in and even after replacing the batteries this wasn't working properly, never mind receiving a signal on the computer. The sender uses 2xCR2025 batteries, in my manual this isn't even mentioned so I reckon they last forever so didn't need replacing anyway!
There is nothing on the unit to allow you to say which bike you are riding. There are no buttons or settings for this hence I presumed it auto-detected too .. - I was looking at the wrong manual (Delphi). You're right there is no mention of how to replace batteries in the sensor or the ability to use more than one bike.
The manual shows a battery low symbol but doesn't mention it anywhere. - I recently bought a Blackburn Atom 3.0 and couldn't get it to work. The display on the computer itself works but it doesn't seem to be getting a signal. I sent it back and got a new one, but the new one has the same problem. Reading this thread it says there should be a 'clicking' sound when the sensor passes the magnet, it doesn't do this. Does this mean the battery is dead? But how is that possible when it has (in theory) never been used?
